About SC Innovators

SC Innovators is a machine building company in Chandigarh, set up in 2017 and in industrial automation since 2021. We design and build special purpose machines, automated assembly and testing systems and electrical control panels for manufacturers, and supply industrial components.

We take a project end to end — application study at the customer's plant, concept and mechanical design, control system design and programming, in-house manufacturing and assembly, factory acceptance testing, site commissioning and after-sales support. Working here means seeing a machine you worked on go from a blank sheet to running production at a customer's line.

Our team is small and hands-on, which means everyone gets real ownership early instead of a narrow slice of a large process.

Purpose of the Role

The Storekeeper controls everything that moves in and out of the factory. In a special purpose machine business, a single missing bought-out part can hold up an entire machine, so this role is about knowing exactly what is in stock, where it is, who took it and when the next order has to be placed. You will maintain the material records, run the inventory, and raise the alarm before a shortage becomes a delay.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

1. Inward Material & Receipt

  • Receive all incoming material against the purchase order and delivery challan; check quantity, description, make and model before accepting.
  • Inspect packaging and visible condition, record shortages or transit damage immediately, and report them to purchase the same day.
  • Route parts requiring dimensional inspection to the quality or design team, and hold them in a marked quarantine area until cleared.
  • Prepare the goods receipt entry and hand the documents to the accounts team for bill matching.
  • Maintain the record of all material movement into and out of the factory, including returnable and non-returnable gate passes.

2. Inventory & Stock Control

  • Maintain stock records for spares, consumables, raw material, bought-out items, work in progress and finished stock.
  • Keep every item in a defined, labelled location so that anything can be found without searching.
  • Set and monitor minimum stock levels for fast-moving and critical items, and inform the purchase team in time for an order to be placed before the stock runs out.
  • Carry out periodic physical stock verification, reconcile it against the record, and investigate and report every discrepancy rather than adjusting the books.
  • Identify slow-moving, obsolete and damaged stock and report it to management for a decision.

3. Material Issue & Project Allocation

  • Issue material within the factory only against an authorised requisition, and record what was issued, to whom, and for which project or machine.
  • Maintain project-wise material allocation so that parts bought for one machine are not consumed by another without a record.
  • Track tools and instruments issued to engineers for site visits and ensure they are returned and accounted for.
  • Keep the store clean, safe and orderly, with heavy items stored safely and hazardous consumables handled as per the safety norms.

4. Item Coding & Documentation

  • Maintain the master list of all unique items used in the plant, with a unique item code, description, make, model, unit and location against each.
  • Allocate codes to new items consistently, and prevent the same physical item being entered twice under two names.
  • Maintain store documentation — purchase orders, purchase bills, delivery challans, goods receipt notes, material issue slips and gate passes — and file them for retrieval.
  • Keep the stock register updated on Excel daily, using formulas so that stock balances calculate themselves rather than being typed.
  • Produce stock statements, consumption reports and pending-material lists for management when required.

5. Despatch Support

  • Prepare material for despatch — packing list preparation, verification against the scope of supply, packing and marking.
  • Ensure the machine, spares, tool kit and documentation despatched to a customer site are complete and match the packing list.
  • Coordinate with the courier and transport agency on pickup, documentation and tracking.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Good working knowledge of a computer, and most importantly Microsoft Excel with confident use of formulas — this will be tested at the interview.
  • Ability to use a vernier calliper, and to read a basic part drawing well enough to identify what has been received.
  • Basic knowledge of store and purchase documentation — purchase order, purchase bill, sale bill, delivery challan, goods receipt note, gate pass and e-way bill.
  • Ability to identify common engineering items correctly by specification — fasteners, bearings, pneumatic fittings, sensors, cables and standard mechanical parts.
  • Systematic and disciplined approach to record keeping; a stock record that does not match physical stock is treated as a problem to be solved, not adjusted.
  • Physically fit for store work, including handling and arranging material.
  • Working English and Hindi; able to write a clear note or email.

Good to Have

  • Prior store or inventory experience in an engineering or manufacturing plant.
  • Experience with inventory or ERP software, or with Tally.
  • Exposure to barcode or QR-based stock systems.
  • Understanding of GST documentation for inward and outward material.

Behavioural Competencies

  • Honest and transparent with stock — reports a discrepancy rather than hiding it.
  • Orderly by nature; a tidy store is treated as part of the job, not an extra.
  • Proactive about shortages — warns the team early instead of reporting a stock-out on the day it stops work.
  • Firm about requisitions and records even when someone senior is in a hurry.
  • Reliable and regular, since production depends on the store being open and current.

What Success Looks Like

First 3 monthsEvery item in the store has a location and a code. Inward, issue and gate pass records are current daily.
By 6 monthsMinimum stock levels are set for all fast-moving and critical items, and purchase is alerted before anything runs out.
By 12 monthsPhysical stock matches the record at verification, project-wise material allocation is traceable, and no machine has been delayed by a store-side shortage.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: as per industry standards, decided on the skill and aptitude demonstrated during the selection process.
  • Statutory benefits: PF, ESI / medical insurance and gratuity as applicable.
  • Training on our systems, documentation practices and the software used for the role.
  • A small team where the role has real visibility with management, and scope to grow into a senior administrative or accounts position.
