About SC Innovators
SC Innovators is a machine building company in Chandigarh, set up in 2017 and in industrial automation since 2021. We design and build special purpose machines, automated assembly and testing systems and electrical control panels for manufacturers, and supply industrial components.
We take a project end to end — application study at the customer's plant, concept and mechanical design, control system design and programming, in-house manufacturing and assembly, factory acceptance testing, site commissioning and after-sales support.
Our team is small and hands-on. Interns here work on real machines and real projects, next to the engineers who build them — not on made-up exercises.
Purpose of the Internship
You will learn how the parts of our machines are actually made: reading drawings, programming toolpaths, setting up the VMC, and checking that the part matches the drawing.
A short internship covers CAM basics, machine setup and measurement. A long internship covers programming and running jobs from drawing to inspected part, under supervision.
What You Will Work On
1. CAM Programming
- Create toolpaths in Fusion 360 CAM (training given): stock, tools, roughing and finishing strategies.
- Check programs by simulation before they reach the machine.
2. VMC Setup & Operation (supervised)
- Workholding, setting work offsets and tool lengths, first-piece checks.
- Learn cutting parameters, tool selection and coolant use for different materials.
3. Inspection
- Measure parts with vernier, micrometer, height gauge and bore gauge; record results on the inspection sheet.
4. Documentation & Upkeep
- Prepare setup sheets and tool lists; keep program backups numbered.
- Help with machine upkeep — cleaning, lubrication, coolant and chip management.
Who Can Apply
- Studying or recently completed one of the courses listed under Eligibility.
- Can read a part drawing — views, dimensions, tolerances.
- Can use a vernier and micrometer.
- Willing to work on the shop floor in work clothes and safety shoes.
Good to Have
- Any CAM software (Fusion 360, Mastercam, NX CAM).
- G-code basics.
- Lathe or milling experience.
What We Look For
- Stops and asks when a drawing is unclear.
- Reports scrap or a wrong part immediately.
- Treats the machine and instruments as their own.
- Follow workshop safety at all times — PPE, machine guards, and never operating a machine without being authorised and supervised. You will run the VMC only after being authorised, and always under supervision.
What Success Looks Like
| First 2 weeks | Reads our drawings, takes correct measurements, and has made a first CAM toolpath that simulates cleanly. |
|---|---|
| End of a short internship | Has programmed, set up (supervised) and inspected a simple part to drawing. |
| End of a long internship | Takes several parts from drawing to inspected part under supervision, with setup sheets and backups in order. |
What You Get Instead of a Stipend
This is an unpaid internship. What it gives you instead:
- Hands-on experience in a working industrial automation company — machines, tools and real deadlines.
- A defined project with deliverables you can show, reviewed by your mentor every week.
- An internship certificate stating the areas you were trained in.
- A written reference for interns who perform well.
- First consideration for a paid role when one opens in your area.
- For outstanding interns, a completion award may be given at the Director's discretion. It is not promised and not part of the offer.
What this internship does not include: a stipend, a travel or food allowance, accommodation, or a guaranteed job. We would rather say that clearly now.
Selection
Selection is three steps: (1) application screening; (2) a short written test at our works — the common aptitude paper plus a short task related to this internship; (3) one interview with a practical question. Selected interns receive an internship offer letter and sign a confidentiality undertaking before starting.
How to Apply
- Email your CV to [email protected] with the subject line "Application — CNC / VMC & CAM Intern (Short / Long)".
- For any query, call or WhatsApp +91-9855104671.
- Please include: your college, course and year; whether you want the short (6–8 weeks) or long (6 months) internship, and the dates you are available; and a few lines on why this internship interests you.
- Mention the machines and software you have used.
- If your college needs a training letter or a no-objection certificate, mention it in your email.
